U.S. sees progress in Pacific basin trade talks

The United States, Vietnam and six other countries on Friday wrapped up a second round of talks on a proposed trade pact spanning the Pacific Ocean with many issues still unresolved and no clear deadline to finish.

"We're in the early stages of these talks, but our team will be reporting some significant positive outcomes to Congress from this week in San Francisco," U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said in a statement after the meeting.
