Mike Hearn

Mike Hearn is highly regarded in New Zealand – United States business and government circles for his ability to build strategic networks.  As an adjunct to heading up the American Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand (AmCham), he is:

 • Secretary & Treasurer, OSAC New Zealand (a joint venture between the US Government and US Business interests in New Zealand on security matters)

 • Board member of United States - New Zealand Council, Washington, DC

 • Advisory Board member of the New Zealand – United States Council, Auckland

 • Stakeholder Forum member The University of Waikato Management School

 • Executive Committee member of the Canada New Zealand Business Association Inc.

Mike was educated in the United Kingdom and has a background in international banking and trade finance in the UK, United States of America and New Zealand.  He took up his current position in 1998.

Over the years, Mike has established a comprehensive network of relationships with companies and individuals involved in international trade and investment in New Zealand, the USA and throughout the Asia Pacific region.

For the last five years Mike has participated in the annual Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce Washington Doorknock, whose purpose is to lobby the US Government and members of Congress on issues facing US business interests in the Asia Pacific region.

Previously, Mike was with the international trade finance company, the S.H. Lock Group, for 14 years, starting in their Head Office in London. After four years he moved to their New York office as a Vice President. He then moved to New Zealand where he took over as Managing Director of the company’s New Zealand operations, achieving record profits each year during his 8 year tenure.

Following this, Mike moved to NZI Bank to expand international operations over a two-year period.  He then moved to the Bank New Zealand rebuilding international banking division, a position he held for five years.

Mike helped to found the successful Canada New Zealand Business Association 16 years ago and currently sits on the Executive Committee where he is currently responsible for liaison with the other international business councils located in New Zealand.

Mike is married to Mary, a New Yorker, and has two adult children.
