The NZ US Council is pleased to have been able to support the publication of Professor Stephen Hoadley’s new book, NZ-US Relations, second edition. The book was launched at a reception last night which included addresses by Council Chairman Simon Power QSO and Executive Director Fiona Cooper Clarke, US Consul-General Melanie Higgins, Director of MFAT’s Auckland Office Simon Tucker and Professor Hoadley himself. Thanks to all who attended.
The book’s release was well timed, following on from the US Presidential election, a dramatic turn of events that has raised questions about the future direction of US foreign policy, and one week before the first visit of a US naval vessel to New Zealand in 33 years. The book reminds us that throughout the long history of the bilateral relationship, including numerous disputes on trade, security and other matters, NZ and the USA have managed to overcome their policy differences and have built a very strong connection. This is a good thing to be reminded of in the face of today’s uncertainties.
The book is available for $40 by mail order from New Zealand Institute of International Affairs, Victoria University, PO Box 600, Wellington.
